Reduce energy consumption and minimize emissions

Fuel consumption reduction at End-Port Furnaces

This study was carried out to reduce the fuel consumption of a regenerative end-port furnace by 3% using the ggENOx system.

First the current furnace situation was defined by measuring temperatures, flue gas composition. The data collection was achieved by installing a furnace analysing system (ggFAS), which analysed the furnace energy and mass balances in this case every 30s. Based on the data the base case simulation was performed and defined as basis for all variations. The following survey studied in 6 Variations the effect of the ggENOX on the energy consumption was studied. The design, especially the postion and operating parameter were optimised to ensure optimal heat transfer and thus a reduction of the energy consumption of the furnace.

The results of the simulations are the optimised position and orientation of the ggENOx system and the operating parameter to ensure highest possible energe consumption. The peak refractory temperature was lowered at an enhenced batch melting. The combustion was stabilised, thus the excess oxygen and CO concentrations were reduced. The NOx emission reduction was not as high as in other cases but still significant.
