Dear glassglobal customer,
now that the end of the year has come, we like to express our sincerest thanks to you as customers, readers and visitors. As it has become a tradition, we are pleased to give a short outlook about glass industry next year, report about trends to watch and new developments.
Flat Glass:
Reports state that Flat glass demand for production of windows, windscreens, photovoltaic modules, solar panels, and facades is high, with a predicted growth in the glass industry forecasted at a CAGR of 5.5 percent from to 2021. APAC region is the fastest growing market due to urbanization and thus rising construction activity and demand for luxury cars. Mature markets, such as North America and Europe grow owing to challenging policies for buildings and laminated glazing. Industry players but also new companies emerge to meet the high demand in automotive and building segment with specialized glass products such as smart glasses, ultra-clear coated solar control glazing, functional or lightweight glazing glass etc. Also important mergers and acquisitions are to be observed.
Packaging Glass:
Container glass segment sees increase particularly in pharmaceutical and in high-end consumer segment, asking for more sophisticated glass and individualized brand packaging using e.g. digital labels, 3D printing etc. PMMI research predicts that contract manufacturing and packaging for pharmaceutical products in developed markets are forecasted to grow at 6% CAGR through 2018. Consumer reports show that over 70% of craft beer consumers confirm glass bottles to be best for taste, and wine drinkers to prefer drinking wine packaged in a glass bottle goes as high as 95%.
Production:
Especially environmental and optimization are the key targets for all glass makers worldwide. Incentives go into continuous improvements to increase energy efficiency. Producers tend to use clean energies for their melting processes, waste energy for batch preheating, building and water heating and they install systems to produce renewable energies on the factory roofs and premises. Also substitute of combustion-engined vehicles by electric or hybrid vehicles has become very popular. Last but not least, installation and expansion of air purification and filtration systems is first choice towards preservation of resources and recycling management.
We will update you on all of above and more throughout the coming year. Let´s look forward into a bright future and glassglobal team is ready to support all your incentives and developments also in the coming years.
Finally, we like to take this opportunity to send our best wishes for a peaceful holiday season and a successful and happy New Year 2018 for you, your family and your team.
