“Energy Efficient & Environmental Sound Glass Production & Glass Products” is the title of the XXVI International A.T.I.V. Conference & GlassTrend seminar, that will be held at the University of Parma in Parma (Italy) on Thursday 27 October & Friday 28 October, 2011. The Conference organised as a joint event by A.T.I.V. (Association of Italian Glass Technologists) and GlassTrend (GLASS Technology REsearch & New Developments Consortium) is part of the institutional activities of the A.T.I.V. Association and GlassTrend Consortium to promote technical and scientific knowledge and improve the competitive strength of glass industries, their suppliers and customers.

The conference is intended as a starting point to receive state-of-the-art information on environmental and energy technologies for glass production and glass product performance and it is a platform for exchanging information. An occasion where participants can get out enhanced & enriched, and obtain a clear picture of important developments. The creation of new "good ideas" are the result of innovation and new contacts, as those that may arise from fruitful discussions between the conference participants. The conference, in a pleasant atmosphere, aims to promote and facilitate the exchange of
knowledge and ideas between people working in similar fields, but rarely have the opportunity to meet and discuss.

Focus topics of this conference are:

  • Flue gas emission control for glass furnaces
  • Glass recycling
  • Filter dust recycling
  • Alternative raw materials (environmentally sound, from sustainable sources)
  • Energy saving measures in glass production
  • Energy recovery from waste heat (flue gases, waste gases)
  • Energy balances of glass furnaces
  • Energy efficient glass product applications & glass in energy technology

The Conference, after the welcoming address by Prof. Igino Ferretti, Rector of the University of Parma, of Piero Ercole, A.T.I.V. President, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ruud Beerkens (TNO Technical Sciences - GLASSTREND), Prof. Angelo Montenero, Director of the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry will be organized into five sessions:

First Session: Combustion & Heat Transfer
Second Session: Energy Efficiency
Third Session: Waste Heat Recovery
Fourth Session: Emission & Regulation
Fifth Session: Energy Efficient Products & Production

PARMA

The conference venue is in north Italy, Parma, and offers beautiful views and the site is well known as the capital of the food-valley: the rich tradition of the local products of the territory and the province include its famous salami, Parma ham, and the renowned Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. Parma is a relatively small city, but it can nevertheless boast some truly monumental architecture, rich artistic heritage and a range of important cultural institutions. Among the main attractions in town are the masterpieces of Romanesque art, i.e. the Cathedral and the Baptistery. The frescoes by Correggio and Parmigianino, Pilotta Palace, some monumental churches, the Ducal Palace, the Regio Theatre are all evidence of the rich past as the capital of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza, ruled by the Farnese family first, then by the Bourbons, now ruling Spain, then by Maria Luigia of Austria, wife of Napoleon. It is also the town of birth of Giuseppe Verdi and Arturo Toscanini.

HOW TO REACH PARMA

By Plane
Airport of Parma “Giuseppe Verdi”: connections to and from Rome (4 daily flights) and London.

The closest international airports are Milan Malpensa (180 km), Bologna (90 km), Bergamo (120 km), Brescia (70 km), and Verona (100 km). However, due to its central position in the Po Valley, the town can be easily reached from all airports in northern Italy, including Venice (250 km), Genoa (210 km), and Florence (190 km).

By Train

Direct connections every hour from and for Milan and Bologna. Direct Intercity and Eurostar to and from Florence, Rome, Naples, Turin, Genoa and Zürich.

By Car
The town can be easily reached also by highway: the "Parma" exit is on the A1 Milan - Naples motorway, connecting traffic from France (via Turin), Switzerland (via Chiasso – Como), and Austria (Autobrennero, via Verona to Modena).
