Accredited Testing Laboratory No. 1027

The Accredited Testing Laboratory No. 1027 is accredited by Czech Accreditation Institute, public service company according to the Standard CSN EN ISO/IEC 17025 (and it is with its activity also conformable with ISO 9001) for wide range of chemical, physical and mechanical tests in section of glass, porcelain, ceramic materials, raw materials, refractory materials, wastes and jewellery. ATL No. 1027 is organizationally divided to two departments: Chemical Laboratory and Physical Laboratory. More detailed description of their activities is mentioned below.

Chemical Laboratory

In frame of its activity provides:

chemical analyses of glasses, glass-ceramics and ceramics materials, raw materials, refractory materials and waste products mainly from silicate productions (slag, ash, resublimate particles, solid emissions etc.)
samples decompositions by melting, sintering procedure and acids under atmospherical and increased pressure in microwave field
determination of separate components of tested samples by various analytical methods
determination of redox-state of selected components of glasses (e. g. sulphur, iron, chromium, selenium)
determination of listed heavy metals in containers from glass (lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium) in traceability to the Direction 94/62/EC and the Act on containers
resistance and leaching tests of glasses, glass-ceramics, ceramics and products from them
testing of releasing of toxic elements from surfaces of products from glass, ceramics and porcelain (e. g. lead and cadmium leach from products with silicate surface)
testing of glass containers according to Czech and European pharmacopoela (chapter 3.2.1)
testing of resistance materials against water, acids and alkalies
testing of leachibility wastes
nickel determination and testing of its releasing from jewellery products and spectacle rims according to the Standards CSN EN 1810, CSN EN 1811, CSN EN 12472

Physical Laboratory

In frame of its activity provides:

determination of physical and mechanical properties of glass, ceramics and products from them (electric, thermal and optical properties, viscosity, dilation, resistance against internal overpressure and vertical encumbrance etc.)
optical microscopy (defects identification in glass, photodocumentation)
electron microscopy a microanalysis
charakterization of powder materials (granulometry, density)
specialized tests

Authorized Body No. 247

By privatisation of Glass Institute, state enterprise in February 1, 2002 Authorized Body No. 237 finished and to new arised legal subject Glass Institute Hradec Kralove Ltd. was granted Authorized Body No. 247.

Provides of activities resulting for Authorized Body from government decree in this range:

Government decree No. 163/2002 of the Collection of Laws, which determines technical requirements to selected civil engineering products:
- 6/4 - Profiled glass
- 6/5 - Architectural flat glass, don't mentioned below ordinal number 1, 2 and 3
- 6/6 - c) Glass hollow blocks
Government decree No. 181/2001 of the Collection of Laws, in wording of Government decree No. 336/2001, which determines technical requirements to health technique tools:
- Hospital accessories (only glass transfusion bottles and bottles for blood)

Certification Body for Certification of Products No. 3019

Certification Body for Certification of Products No. 3019 is accredited by Czech Accreditation Institute, public service company according to the Standard CSN EN 45011 for certification of products from glass, porcelain and ceramics; toys; glass, raws for glass and ceramics production, jewellery and other metal articles in range mentioned in appendix to certificate about accreditation according to state and international Standards.

Centre of Technical Standardization - Information Centre for Producers of Glass and Ceramics

In field of glass, ceramics, metal jewellery and in relative or expletive domains

ensures:

accounting and archiving of the Standards CSN and international Standards
adaptation of European and international Standards to the Standard CSN system by translation
collaboration with CEN (European Standardization Committee) at drafts creation of European standards for hollowware intended for contact with foods, glass containers and jewellery
collaboration with ISO (International Standardization Organization) at drafts creation of international standards for utility glass and ceramics and drafts concerning of glass quality

provides standardization services:

searches of Czech technical standards
validity verification of Czech technical standards
validity verification of foreign standards
elaboration of firm technical standards
complex analysis of standardization state of glass, ceramic and jewellery products in international, possibly foreign standards, according to requirement and in traceability to appropriate legislative EC/EU
expert consusultations concerning of standardization problematics including dokumentation EC/EU

Scientific and Technical Information Centre

This Centre operates the greatest library of glass literature in the Czech Republic with the fund of books and journals and the classified information file from approx. 40 years of its existence.

The basic activities are as follows:

librarian services
information and search services
- literary and patent research retrievals from own sources (from international glass database GLASSFILE, from foreign databases presented in STN, Karlsruhe in Germany or on Internet)
- directories of Czech and foreign producers of glass products suppliers for glass industry
translation services (Czech, English, Russian, German and Spanish in cooperation with external translators)
